a toast to carpe diem, to driving by the
train tracks and being filled with the sound
of 50 freight cars passing, to singing free
bird with people you love, to peeling oranges
with sticky fingers, to a hum in your head
that sings a song, to walking barefoot and
the January sun. An effort to put forth in life
so that our graves are not bare like these trees
